Step 0 — required

How will you use this hoist?

Pick the closest match. Each duty class has its own capacity envelope: the heavier the use, the lower the rated weight. Selecting a class lighter than your real-world use voids the manufacturer warranty and risks motor failure. If unsure, pick the highest expected class — the hoist you actually need.

1 Lifting capacity kg
2 Lift height m
3 ATEX protection level

Pick the execution matching the zone classification of your site (directive 2014/34/EU, equipment group II, category 3). Dust-proof GP D covers Zone 22 (flammable dusts). Gas-proof GP G covers Zone 2 explosive gas atmospheres and includes the Zone 22 dust protection — it requires an on-site compressed-air supply of 4–10 bar. Both executions include IP65, Klixon temperature surveillance, a geared limit switch and Ex cable glands.

4 Power supply

ATEX hoists are built for 3-phase mains only — 3 × 400 V is the workshop standard. 1-phase versions are not available in the explosion-proof execution.

5 Lifting speed

Single speed (N) is the standard 8 m/min hoist. Slow (NL) halves the speed for finer positioning. NF gives two-speed control. SF doubles the speed but reduces capacity by half.

6 Suspension trolley (GHF / GMF)

Optional GIS suspension trolley to run the hoist along an I-beam. GHF is manual (hand-pushed, no electrics — permitted in both ATEX executions as standard). GMF is motorised and is supplied in the same ATEX execution (D or G) as the hoist; with the gas-proof version the overpressure monitoring sits on the trolley and is shared with the hoist.

7 Flange width (beam width)

Width of the I-beam / monorail flange the trolley rolls on. Standard ranges ship ex-works with no surcharge; wider beams may add a support-bolt or counterweight attachment fee. Measure the flange (top horizontal lip) of your beam in millimetres.

8 Suspension

Eyebolt suspension is the standard fixed mount. Hook suspension lets you swap the hoist between trolleys without rewiring.

9 Chain bucket / container

The chain bucket collects the slack chain on the up stroke. Plastic is the cheapest, textile bags carry more chain, MF (sheet metal frame) versions reduce construction height for low-headroom installations.

10 Geared limit switch

Standard geared limit switch is included for 3-phase models. Dual emergency stops add a second redundant shut-off. External limit stops are required for tall installations and only work with a textile chain bucket.

11 Voltage / certification

Standard EU voltages are included. Special voltage covers non-standard motor windings. CSA/CUS execution adds North American certifications (60 Hz only).

12 Control switch / pendant

The gas-proof (G) version requires the ATEX-certified pendant. For the dust-proof (D) version the GIS standard IP65 pendant is sufficient in most Zone 22 areas — the ATEX pendant remains available as an upgrade.

13 Control cable length

Standard cable matched to the lift is the GIS catalogue length (2-button: lift − 1.2 m; 4-button: lift − 1 m). Drag the slider or type any value between 2 and 60 m if you need a different length (e.g. multi-level installations). Catalogue tier prices apply when your length matches the standard for a 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 15 / 20 m lift; otherwise we charge basic set + per-metre.

14 Safety load hook

Replaces the standard load hook with a safety hook (latch plus higher safety factor). Required by some construction and entertainment industry sites.

15 Second brake

Adds a redundant brake for additional safety in lifting applications (entertainment industry, person-loading).

16 Operating data counter

Tracks operating hours / cycles for predictive maintenance. Requires a 42 V control voltage (standard 3-Ph models).

17 Safety radio remote control

The safety radio remote control is available for the dust-proof (D) version only — the gas-proof version is operated with the ATEX cable pendant.

The GIS GP ATEX is the explosion-proof execution of the proven GIS GP electric chain hoist for hazardous areas as defined by directive 2014/34/EU. Choose the dust-proof GP D model for Zone 22 (flammable dusts) or the gas-proof GP G model for Zone 2 (explosive gas atmospheres, includes Zone 22 dust protection). Every hoist ships with the EC declaration of conformity, the ATEX annex to the operating instructions and an inspection pass.

Key features

  • Certified to the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU with EC declaration of conformity — equipment group II, category 3
  • Dust-proof GP D for Zone 22: II 3D Ex tc IIIA T130 °C Dc — IP65 housing, Klixon temperature surveillance, geared limit switch and Ex cable glands, black covers
  • Gas-proof GP G for Zone 2 (and 22): additionally II 3G Ex pzc IIA T3 Gc — 0.4 bar overpressure inside the housing prevents gases, vapours or mists from entering; pressure monitoring cuts the control voltage instantly on air loss
  • Gas-proof version requires an on-site compressed-air supply of 4–10 bar (pluggable 6 mm hose connection)
  • Full GIS GP capacity range 100–6300 kg (GP250 to GP2500 frames), lift heights 3–60 m, duty classes M3–M7
  • Manual (GHF) or motorised (GMF) trolley — the motorised trolley is supplied in the same ATEX execution as the hoist with shared overpressure monitoring on the gas version
  • ATEX-certified control pendant (2- or 4-button with emergency stop); the GIS standard IP65 pendant remains sufficient for many Zone 22 dust applications
  • Safety radio remote control available for the dust-proof version
  • Options: second brake, external limit switches, hook suspension, operating data counter, special voltages, CSA/CUS execution
  • Complies with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
