Step 0 — required

How will you use this hoist?

Pick the closest match. Each duty class has its own capacity envelope: the heavier the use, the lower the rated weight. Selecting a class lighter than your real-world use voids the manufacturer warranty and risks motor failure. If unsure, pick the highest expected class — the hoist you actually need.

1 Lifting capacity kg
2 Lift height m
3 Power supply

GPFU hoists are built for 3-phase mains only (the inverter needs a 3-phase supply) — 3 × 400 V is the workshop standard. 1-phase versions are not available with the frequency inverter.

4 Lifting speed

The integrated frequency inverter (15–87 Hz) gives a soft start and stepless two-stage speed control from the standard pendant. N reaches 9.6 m/min on 1 fall; NL halves the speeds for finer positioning. Two-fall setups double the capacity and halve the speed. Acceleration ramps and speeds are factory-adjustable.

5 Suspension trolley (GHF / GMF)

Optional GIS suspension trolley to run the hoist along an I-beam. GHF is manual (hand-pushed); GMF is motorised. When a trolley is added, the hoist must be eyebolt-mounted (GIS technical rule), so the Hook suspension option becomes unavailable. Motorised GMF prices include the mandatory GMF-GP connection cable (CHF 21).

6 Flange width (beam width)

Width of the I-beam / monorail flange the trolley rolls on. Standard ranges ship ex-works with no surcharge; wider beams may add a support-bolt or counterweight attachment fee. Measure the flange (top horizontal lip) of your beam in millimetres.

7 Suspension

Eyebolt suspension is the standard fixed mount. Hook suspension lets you swap the hoist between trolleys without rewiring.

8 Chain bucket / container

The chain bucket collects the slack chain on the up stroke. Plastic is the cheapest, textile bags carry more chain, MF (sheet metal frame) versions reduce construction height for low-headroom installations.

9 Geared limit switch

Standard geared limit switch is included for 3-phase models. Dual emergency stops add a second redundant shut-off. External limit stops are required for tall installations and only work with a textile chain bucket.

10 Voltage / certification

Standard EU voltages are included. Special voltage covers non-standard motor windings. CSA/CUS execution adds North American certifications (60 Hz only).

11 Control switch / pendant

Premium switch variants apply on top of the standard pendant; the actual control cable length is selected in the next step. When a motorised GMF trolley is selected the pendant is automatically a 4-button + ES (GIS technical rule).

12 Control cable length

Standard cable matched to the lift is the GIS catalogue length (2-button: lift − 1.2 m; 4-button: lift − 1 m). Drag the slider or type any value between 2 and 60 m if you need a different length (e.g. multi-level installations). Catalogue tier prices apply when your length matches the standard for a 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 15 / 20 m lift; otherwise we charge basic set + per-metre.

13 Safety load hook

Replaces the standard load hook with a safety hook (latch plus higher safety factor). Required by some construction and entertainment industry sites.

14 Second brake

Adds a redundant brake for additional safety in lifting applications (entertainment industry, person-loading).

15 Thermal protection

Motor thermal protection. Klixon is a bimetal switch that physically opens the control circuit at the cut-off temperature; PTC is a thermistor that signals (no-trip variant) or shuts down the motor (with-trip variant) via a relay. These are alternative circuits — choose one.

16 Operating data counter

Tracks operating hours / cycles for predictive maintenance. Requires a 42 V control voltage (standard 3-Ph models).

17 Slack chain shutdown

Stops the hoist if the chain goes slack (load support failure). Required for some person-lifting / theatre apps.

18 Safety radio remote control

Wireless 2-button pendant with emergency stop. 42 V is the standard for 3-Ph hoists, 24 V for special low-voltage control. Selector switch lets one pendant operate multiple hoists.

The GIS GPFU is the frequency-inverter execution of the proven GIS GP electric chain hoist. Where a standard hoist switches between two fixed speeds, the GPFU accelerates and decelerates steplessly — ideal where a high number of cycles, accurate positioning or gentle handling of sensitive loads is required.

Key features

  • Integrated frequency inverter (2.2 kW on the GP 250/500 FU frames, 3.7 kW on GP 1000 FU) driving a four-pole stator — both speed stages are created electronically (15–87 Hz)
  • Soft start and soft stop: gentle on the load, the chain and the steel structure; load sway is minimised
  • Lifting speeds up to 9.6 m/min (N FU, 1 fall) — roughly 20 % faster than the standard two-speed hoist at the top end
  • Acceleration ramps and both speeds are individually adjustable at the factory or during commissioning
  • Built for high switching frequencies and multi-shift operation: every capacity/fall combination is catalogued through duty class A7/M7, with an extreme 200-cycles/60 % ED rating available on request
  • Radio interference filter — complies with the EMC directive EN 61000 industrial sector (class A)
  • Two-stage push-button control from the standard GIS pendant (or radio remote) — no special operator training needed
  • Protection class IP65, insulation class F, load hook DIN 15401
  • Manual (GHF) or motorised (GMF) trolley available; 3-phase mains only
  • GP 1600 FU and GP 2500 FU (up to 6300 kg, 5.5 kW inverter with brake resistor) available on request
  • Complies with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
